Endorsement | Barack Obama for president of the United States | The Courier-Journal
President Barack Obama
OPINION-Editorials
In just two days, voters in Kentucky and Indiana will have a chance to go the polls and join the nation in electing the next president of the United States.
We endorse Democratic incumbent Barack Obama for a second term and urge his re-election as president.
Too often, voters lament the lack of a viable choice among candidates.
This choice for president could not be clearer.
Mr. Obama has helped steer the nation from the brink of a major depression, extricated it from one unpopular war and imposed a deadline for another. His efforts, unlike the proposal of his opponent, "Let Detroit go bankrupt", are credited with helping save the U.S. auto industry from collapse.
The President successfully launched crucial health care reforms in a country where the lack of access to basic care is a shameful exception among developed nations. Yes, people in this country do die or face financial ruin for lack of health insurance and it's time the smug ???adversaries of 'Obamacare' faced this reality.
Under Mr. Obama's presidency, the economy has begun to recover, albeit slowly.slowly? And while we might have hoped for a faster recovery or more rapid advances in policies, bear in mind Mr. Obama has been forced to proceed against obstructive Republicans in Congress more eager to destroy his presidency than help provide Americans with jobs, access to health care and safety-net services for the poorest and most vulnerable. Seems the CJ forgets that OB had two years of COMPLETE Majority! But we know they know, they are just hoping you are too stupid to realize or remember it!
Mr. Obama ended the military's absurd'don't ask, don't tell policy' which barred so many patriotic, gay Americans from serving openly openly is the key word here by these falsehooders!in the armed forces. And while failing in his goal to enact immigration reform, he succeeded in offering an entr'e to young people brought here as children from other countries. illegally
Most recently, he has emerged as a forceful leader in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, Yup....3 hours primping before the drooling media...some help! winning the praise of politicians from affected areas including Chris Christie, the Republican governor of New Jersey, and the endorsement of New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg. Mr. Bloomberg, an Independent, singled out the President's policies on global climate change, which the mayor believed contributed to the violent storms that battered the Northeast.
The public may not like the President's stance on all issues, but at least we know where Mr. Obama stands. REALLY???
By contrast, his Republican opponent, Mitt Romney, has shifted positions on so many issues so many times he has been ridiculed nationally as a 'shape-shifter' who has morphed into 'too many Mitts. The true Shape Shifters are the Media....they spend their every word shaping and shifting what Republicans say......
Some examples:
On health care reform, Mr. Romney, as governor of Massachusetts was an enthusiastic backer of Romneycare, making him for health care reform before he was against it.
On abortion, Mr. Romney who once claimed to support a woman's right to choose this legal, medical procedure' and oh...Media, just what is this "medical procedure you speak of....oh yeah...that would be abortion, wouldn't it? The destruction of another living thing, and you accuse Romney of what, EVOLVING? You know, as Obama has evolved on gay marriage, in the nick of time for the election! again, was for it before he was against it.
On gun control, Mr. Romney as Massachusetts governor signed a law banning assault weapons but now opposes rational restrictions on weapons he once called 'instruments of destruction' making him again...making him? you guys are real creeps with your twists and turns...you make... for gun control before he was against it.
In short, it appears that Mr. Romney, in his zeal to be president, has been willing to compromise his core beliefs on almost anything to appeal to the increasingly extreme elements that have come to dominate his party. Yes those people who want the constitution and rule of law protected and respected...can certainly be extreme...to those who want to destroy it!
Voters who think they like what Mr. Romney stands for should consider whether it's possible to know where he stands.
But we do have a glimpse of where he stands on some issues.
Mr. Romney promises sweeping tax cuts of 20 percent' which few experts believe mathematically possible without tax increases on some. And he clearly has no interest in increasing taxes on multimillionaires such as himself. Again you repeat Obamas lies!
He pledges to repeal the Affordable Care Act, if elected, but offers nothing meaningful or realistic in its place, vaguely and wrongly suggesting hospital emergency rooms are a solution for the poor and sick. The CJ is a Bigger threat to our freedom than even Obama is...they are the water boys for Obamas agenda...and are willing to see us fall as a country
On Medicare, Mr. Romney favors the voucher care plan of his running mate, Wisconsin Rep. Paul Ryan, to abolish the remarkably efficient health care safety net for the elderly and replace it with vouchers for seniors to buy commercial insurance plans. Again you regurgitate the lie
And as for Medicaid, which provides health services to nearly 2 million poor and disabled citizens in Kentucky and Indiana, Mr. Romney proposes cutting it and turning lump-sum block grants over to states to manage. That is a chilling prospect, given the poverty and deep needs of this region and many parts of this nation. Turning it to the States..where it will be closer to those it serves...and out of the control of 535 bickering politicians! And he said nothing about cutting it....maybe the Federal staff who will no longer be sucking from the trough...will allow for savings other than that I have not heard him say he was going to cut the allotments.
The backdrop to the next presidency will be the appointment of future U.S. Supreme Court justices. The bitter ideological divide in the country appears to run deep among the current justices and the court needs more thoughtful moderates that Mr. Obama is far more likely to offer.
Otherwise, we can expect more hardliners yeah, like Robert's? and an escalation in the drive to overturn Roe v. Wade and a woman's right to make such choices. and those choices...be?
At this stage, a vote for Mr. Romney would be a dangerous gamble with no guarantee on which Mr. Romney would emerge after the election.
Mr. Obama, by contrast, has been steady, thoughtful, consistent and effective. Sure has been steady.. unemployment and home losses and
WALL STREET continues to PROSPER!
On Tuesday, we urge voters to return Mr. Obama to the White House
And if they do...we will all be very sorry indeed....this man is No compromiser!
